Montenegro lies just south of Dubrovnik in the Adriatic. This small country, once part of Yugoslavia offers a beautiful coastline stretching over 100 miles. There are numerous beaches and anchorages in sheltered bays, inlets and coves as well as 'Boka Kotorska', the only fjord in the Mediterranean.
The bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska) is one of the most indented parts of the Adriatic Sea and is a beautiful bay with limestone cliffs. The base at Kotor is located on the eastern most side. It is approximately 80km from Dubrovnik airport. The old town retains its Venetian influence with an asymmetric structure of narrow streets and squares that criss-cross and are surrounded by an impressive city wall. From here you can sail to Risan, Uvala Krtole, Herceg Novi, Bigova, Budva, Uvala Zavala, Sveti Stefan, Bar & Ulcinj.

Notes: Mainsail is slab with lazy jacks or in-mast furling – please state if you have a preference. Specifications may vary. Yacht/catamaran suppliers require you to lodge a security deposit on your credit card, this is refundable assuming no loss or damage occurs. A local fee of 100-130 Euros is applicable in respect of yachts/catamarans taken from Kotor, Montenegro. This payment is for your end cleaning. All yachts/catamarans have roller genoa, electric anchor windlass, wheel steering, dinghy, VHF & 12 volt power supply. Diesel, water & any mooring fees away from the home port are not included.
Tourist tax - In previous years a local tourist tax has been collected when paying your mooring fees at the various marinas. This has now changed and a single charge for the duration of your holiday will be made before you depart from the yacht base/home port and is payable to the yacht provider during check-in. This tax is currently 1 Euro per person, per day. Please note the amount hasn’t changed, just the way it’s collected.

Typical ports of call
Risan – A small town on the most northern part of the bay. There is a small sheltered harbour. You can obtain fuel, water and essential provisions in the town. You can anchor in 6 – 12 metres, the seabed is mud.
Uvala Krtole – A sheltered anchorage which lies on the south east corner of the bay protected from N and NE winds. The seabed offers good holding but your mooring position will depend on the wind direction.
Herceg Novi – A busy coastal town with a wide range of amenities including shops and a medical centre which is situated between mountain Orjen in the north and the entrance to the Bay of Kotor to the south. The harbour offers good shelter from N, NE and E but is exposed to S winds. Moor on the inner side of the harbour wall where fuel and water are available, expect a mooring fee.
Bigova, formerly known as Traste - A small quiet village with its own harbour lying on the south east corner of Zaliv Traste. Either moor alongside the pier where there is a small café or anchor in 4 metres, good holding in sand and weed. You can obtain basic provisions from the shop. NB: Take care when entering the bay as there is a shoal patch with just 3 metres depth which extends for 1 – 2 cables.
Budva – One of the oldest coastal settlements in the Adriatic which has become a very popular holiday resort. There are an abundance of shops and facilities ashore such as a daily fruit/vegetable market, bank and pharmacy. Moor stern to on the quay or anchor off in 4 metres NE of the marina extension which offers good holding. NB: Avoid the underwater rocks.
Uvala Zavala – A lovely anchorage either suitable for a lunch time or overnight stop providing good shelter where you can anchor off in 8 metres. NB: Exposed to the SE
Sveti Stefan – A very picturesque anchorage known for its photogenic qualities with exceptionally clear water for swimming and a beach for relaxing. Drop your anchor in 6 metres to the E of the island and causeway, good shelter is offered in most wind conditions.
Bar - A commercial port of entry with limited mooring for leisure craft where there are numerous facilities such as supermarkets, a department store, cafes, bars and a small hospital with a pharmacy. You will probably be directed to use one of the berths reserved for yachts wishing to clear customs if wanting to stay overnight. The harbour offers good all round shelter and you can obtain fuel in the town and water on the quayside.
Ulcinj - The most southerly port in Montenegro lying approximately 15 km from the Albanian border. The walled town and citadel is perched high on a hill with panoramic views overlooking the quayside and the bay below. It has various shops as well as a bank and medical centre. There is a large sandy beach and a buoyed swimming area in the innermost part of the bay. You can anchor in 4 metres in the centre of the bay or go alongside the quay keeping clear of the ferry berth.
