Cruising Area
Since it's creation 4 years ago, the Sporades flotilla has rapidly become a firm favourite with Setsail guests, best to book early in 2008 as regional flight availability is limited.
We sail west to Skopelos Island visiting one or two of the unspoilt bays and the small ports of Panormos, Glossa, and Stafilos. On alternate weeks we sail North to Panayia on Pelagos and during some independent sailing on the second week we visit Patitiri and Skantzoura before returning to Skiathos via Skopelos town.
Panormos (Skopelos Island) Explore this large bay with it’s secluded inlet on the south side, brought to fame in Michael Carrolls book "Gates of the wind". If you have read his book you will immediately recognise his house on the east side of the cove. The book's wonderful description of the island paints a picture of true Greek life long before the outside world had discovered the Sporades.
Alonissos Heading north east is the island of Alonissos, where the donkeys are still the main form of transport. You will see the remains of the ancient capital on the hill as you approach the island.
Patitiri (Alonnisos Island) This picturesque port is hidden from the sea and surrounded by cliffs to the south and fragrant pine clad slopes on the north. Sample the excellent seafood in one of the many waterside tavernas.
Peristeri The island has a choice of half a dozen good anchorages for a leisurely lunch time stop. Try Ormos Klima in calm weather, with it’s spectacular Gorge running down to the head of the bay.
Glossa (Skopelos Island) Once a sleepy village, now a vibrant community set on the hill above the bustling harbour and popular golden sand beaches.
Votsi (Alonnisos Island) This colourful fishing harbour lying north of Patitiri with it’s waterside tavernas is very popular with the locals. A more tranquil setting can be found at the cove lying north of the harbour.
The Islands of Pelagos, Skantzoura and Yioura Uninhabited except for wild goats, these island are full of history. Such as the Cyclops’ Cave on Yioura, and if you anchor in the aptly named Monastery Bay on the east side of Pelagos Island, you can visit the now deserted monastery several hundred feet above. Well worth the trip just for the view. A favourable anchorage if the winds are light is Plantis, on the northern tip of Pelagos. Skantzoura is the island furthest east and has some great daytime coves in which to anchor for lunch and a swim.
Skopelos The old harbour of Skopelos town with it's narrow cobbled streets and fine courtyards, often filled with an abundance of flowers still retains the magical charm of the Greek Mediterranean lifestyle.
